HOW TO COMMISSION - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How long is the waiting time?
A: I have a 24-month schedule and always get booked well in advance due to the time consuming nature of my painting technique. Waiting time varies, but generally I cannot accept commissions that need to be delivered in less than 12 months from the time of inquiry. If you are planning a portrait as a gift for a special occasion please allow plenty of time and contact me as early as possible.
Year 2017 is fully booked, all new commission inquiries will be scheduled for the 2018-19 period.
Q: How much does it cost to commission a portrait?
A: Portraits vary enourmously in complexity and the time it takes to create them. Fees can range from £5.000 to £50.000 depending on the amount of figure shown, complexity of composition, type of background, intricacy of costume, amount of fine detail, etc. Please make an inquiry - it is not possible to quote a price without knowing what kind of portrait you have in mind. Complexity of work can be adjusted to meet your budget.
Q: What media are available?
A: My artworks are available in two types: 1) traditional oil on linen canvas and 2) dry media on paper (charcoal, conte and pastel).
Q: Can we supply our favourite photo for you to paint from?
A: No, I do not paint from other people's photos. I work directly with my sitters and take my own reference photographs, if necessary, to supplement life sittings. I often borrow the sitter's clothes and props and paint those directly from life in my studio.
Q: Do you accept animal portrait commissions?
A: I do not accept commission to paint animals on their own, but I am happy to include a family pet in a portrait, especially if it says something about the sitter's character and helps create a more interesting composition.
