HOW TO COMMISSION - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How much does it cost to commission a portrait?
A: Portraits vary a lot in complexity and the time it takes to create them. Each project is unique and is priced individually, depending on medium, size, complexity of composition, amount of intricate detail, type of background, and client's budget. Typically fees start from £10,000 for pastel portraits and from £20.000 for oil paintings. To request a detailed price list please send your inquiry via the Contact page.
Q: Is there waiting time?
A: Yes. I have a 24-month schedule and get booked well in advance due to the time consuming nature of my painting technique. Waiting time varies, but generally I cannot accept commissions that need to be delivered in less than 12 months from the time of inquiry. If you are planning a portrait as a gift for a special occasion please allow plenty of time and send your inquiry as early as possible.
Q: What media are available?
A: I work in two techniques - traditional oil on linen canvas and dry media on paper (charcoal, conte and pastel). I do not use acrylic or watercolour paints.
Q: Can we supply our photo for you to paint from?
A: No, I do not paint from other people's photos. Getting to know my sitter and having an opportunity to design the portrait during the initial life sittings is absolutely essential for my working process. After we agree on every detail of the composition I will take my own reference photographs and complete the portrait in my studio.
Q: Do you accept animal portrait commissions?
A: I do not paint animals on their own, but I am happy to occasionally include family pets in portraits if they add meaning and interest to the composition.
